Hot Sweaty Meatball

G wears those contact lenses that are meant to be left in for a month, and they're great. Once he has them in, he can totally forget them, which is both the best and the worst feature.

Since he started wearing these contacts, he has not once remembered to remove them on time. About every two months, he wakes up one morning with debilitating pain and at least one eye that's bulging, throbbing, and feels like a "hot sweaty meatball". When this happens, he has to remove the lenses and "go commando" with no vision correction for a day or so, which in and of itself is a huge safety issue.

He won't get Lasik, he won't wear glasses, and he won't change these contacts on time. I'm not his Mother, and I don't want to be. At the same time, I don't want him to lose an eye over his carelessness. To nag, or not to nag, that is the question.

Hey Shakespeare,

Might I suggest the power of a sticky note? That's the only way we remember that this year we go to my parents for Thanksgiving...

Hot sweaty meatball?? What I'm picturing right now requires a vistit to the opthomolagist and possibly a priest...

Ok, Stephen, I love the Post-It idea. I ran it by G and he's on board and open to trying that reminder. Check's in the mail on that one!

What you said about the priest damn-near killed me! By the way, in Texas (where we went to college), "damn-near" is an actual unit of measurement, and it's SMALL! Great laugh - thanks!

Shakespeare, fka Addie :-)

There are a couple of potential drawbacks to post-it notes. (1) They lose their sticky and fall off whatever you stuck them to, and (2) You start to ignore something you see every day--and if you put it someplace less visible, G might overlook it.

Does he have a calendar or reminder feature on his cell phone? If so, change the contacts, then program in a reminder for one month ahead.

Good thinking, Kathy. I think a reminder on the cell phone would be a great idea.

Thanks to you both for your ideas to rehabilitate G's contact lens problem!
